Grades & Course Info
The following table gives information on the different grades and courses they match to, with corresponding winning times for the Long, Middle, and Sprint courses.
Novice orienteers are recommended to enter one of the two recreation grades which are designed to be achievable for newer orienteers. These are not age related but are simply Rec 1 (longer) and Rec 2 (shorter). So novices can decide based on level of fitness and confidence. Difficulty, which relates to the navigational challenge (not physical) is rated by colour - red being hardest, then orange, yellow and white. A useful resource for people new to orienteering is listed on the North West Orienteering Club website and can be found here.
