What is a Sprint?

A Sprint is an individual competition, with staggered start times, where you must visit all the controls in a prescribed order in the fastest time.  Sprints are normally held in urban environments on a campus, school grounds etc. with route choices being created by buildings and urban obstacles.  Navigationally easier than forest orienteering events, fast decisions are the key.  Competitors start at one minute intervals, and competitors receive their map at the map issue point at the same time the clock starts. They follow a marked route to the start triangle on their map (a non-punching control), they then start navigating to control #1 then #2 etc. The clock stops when they punch the finish control.

What is a Rogaine?

A Rogaine is a team competition at AIMS, where you will have a set time of 60 minutes to visit as many controls as possible, as a team, with penalties applied if you are late back.  Controls will be worth 10, 20 or 30 points each, and penalties will be -20 points for every minute or part minute your team is late ie.15 seconds late equals minus 20 points (equivalent of 2 controls.)  Teams will have approximately 5-10 minutes of planning time in the start corral, with no outside assistance allowed from parents, teachers, or other competitors.  All teams in the same grade will start at the same time.  Teams will then try to visit controls using efficient route choices before finishing within 60 minutes.
