Summer Nav 1, RGHS/Hillcrest
Event 1 of the Summer Nav Series for 2016 and a few changes from the Summer Nav of the last few years. The major difference being a change from a rogaine style event to a course based setup. 4 courses were available with a range of distance from 2.8km up to 9.5km. Mark McKenna was the only runner to tackle the longest course. Going on a tour around Hillcrest.
The closing of the Mokoia School gates just after control placement was finished added an extra challenge for runners, as did the use of control AL as a fishing rod by some of the local kids.
The Utuhina Stream was uncrossable for event in order to prompt some route choice, although the clear, cool water looked pretty inviting all afternoon - even though it does run right through suburbia a quick run across would have been a good way to cool off.

Summer Nav 2, Lynmore
The map of Lynmore offers fewer options in terms of route choice with parks so courses were set to use the roads for route choice. Each course incuded a number of legs with two even looking options for a route. It was good to hear at the finish that runners we split on many of these legs.
In terms of results Greg Flynn toppled Darren Ashmore on course 1. Both dipping well under 40 minutes for the course. Course 3 had some tight results with most of the field on 57 or 58 minutes for the course.
