OBOP are excited to confirm an upcoming event at Summer Hill.
Note the event will go ahead even if it is raining. If the weather is really extreme and we choose to postpone the event it will be communicated on our Facebook page and via an email to our database.
The Summer Hill Autumn O event is a course orienteering event where you choose the level of challenge/length of course that suits you. Courses will be Long 7km, Medium 4-5km but easier controls, and Short 1.7km. You then navigate your way around that course as quickly and efficiently as possible following the order that is laid out on the map (this format differs from a rogaine format).
Summer Hill is a fantastic location,pitch on the hills above the stunning Bay of Plenty. Undulating farmland, mixed with bush and a variety of trails - there is something for everyone. When: Sunday 21st June
Where: Summerhill Recreation Trails, 3km up Reid Road, off Welcome Bay Road. Event will be signposted from Welcome Bay Road. This is a narrow windy road that often has cyclists, please take care while driving. Overflow parking will be directed if required. Parking will be in the main Summerhill car park, and also on the farm airstrip. Please car pool as much as possible to reduce the number of cars, and park your car as efficiently as possible, following the instructions of the parking marshals. Access to and from the airstrip is on a marked pathway - please do not walk on Reid Road. Check the attached map (bottom of this page) to show entry and exit points from the airstrip. Noted due to weather conditions we will be parking 2WD in normal parking area and 4WD vehicles on air strip. Please follow the instructions of the parking marshalls.
Time: Registration open from 9am to 10.30am. First start: 9.30am. Last start: 10:30am (or when last person who registered before 10.30am has started).
Courses of different lengths. Visit the controls for your course in the order they are numbered. Three options available: Long - Suitable for experienced and fitter orienteers. Approximately 60 minute winning time. Medium - Shorter course for those who are not as strong and/or as experienced. Approximately 45 minute winning time. Short - Fun course for families and anyone who is new to orienteering. 30 minutes winning time
With a course you navigate from control to control in numerical order, trying to complete the course as quickly as possible.
Event charges below: Please bring cash on the day! You do not need to pre-enter. Simply enter on the day at registration. Please note: SPORTident used for Autumn O events - SPORTident hire $5 per SIAC if you do not have your own.
